Yesterday was opening day for golf in 2019 across the state of Iowa. For the Adel-Desoto-Minburn girls team, there will be plenty of familiar faces as only two of the team’s seven players last season graduated. There will however be a new, yet familiar, face in the coaching ranks. Former ADM golfer Dana Brown begins her first season as the head girls golf coach.
Brown, a 2002 ADM graduate, was named the head coach last November. Brown was part of the school’s first state-qualifying girls golf team in 2001. She had previously served as an assistant volunteer golf coach last season. According to an official school district press release at the time of the hire, Brown “is enthusiastic about the opportunity to work with ADM Schools and its student athletes. Her goal is to create a welcoming team environment where girls of all skill levels can learn the game of golf and become competitive.”
Brown is also involved in youth golf coaching in the Adel area and is an ADM Alumni Association board member. Her and her husband, Steve, along with son Wilson, currently reside in Adel. The Tigers begin competitive play on Thursday, April 4th with a dual against Gilbert at the River Valley Golf Course in Adel.
