The City of Perry has officially submitted their fiscal year 2020 budget, and the staff and City Council were pleased with how it turned out.
City Administrator Sven Peterson says they were able to get each department nearly everything they wanted, while still lowering the tax levy for residents. The City expects to receive around $12.8 million in total revenues for the year, and they budgeted around $12.6 million in expenditures. The tax levy was set at $17.80 per $1,000 assessed value, a decrease of around eight-cents from the current fiscal year. Some key individual line items in the budget include: the creation of the Community and Economic Development Department and the salary of a director; a 13th police officer; another maintenance worker; and a new $300,000 street sweeper for the Public Works Department.
Peterson says it was a successful budgeting season, and is excited about everything the City was able to accomplish. “These are a few of the things that I’ve been working towards over the last few years, and it’s finally a great thing to be able to see them actually come to fruition and be able to happen. And with that said, none of that would have been possible without a lot of hard work from all of our department heads in putting together their budgets; and working with (Finance Officer) Susie (Morehead), myself, and the City Council to put forth a balanced budget that really is able to accomplish some good things for the City, and move us in the right direction.”
