The last Greene County High School wrestler to place at the Iowa State Tournament was Jordan Challen, fourth in 2015. Last year’s Drake Relays high school girls’ high jump champion was Megan Durbin from Greene County. Both have finished their collegiate Winter sports seasons, Challen in wrestling at Central College (Pella) and Durbin in track & field at Iowa State University.
Challen, a senior, finished his college wrestling career with a 68-41 mark for the Dutch. He was 17-7 this season, shuffling between 157 and 149 lbs. Tournament finishes this season for the former Ram standout included two third place finishes and one fourth place.
Durbin is a freshman at ISU and high jumped indoors despite competing with a meniscus tear, which was surgically repaired on March 6. She competed throughout the indoor season although she wasn’t completely healthy. A two-time Drake Relays champion, State Champion, and three-time State Meet runner-up for the Rams, Durbin finished 11th for the Cyclones after clearing 5′ 6″ at the recent Big 12 Championships in Lubbock, TX. She expects to recover from the surgery in time to compete in the upcoming outdoor season.
