Though the calendar says we’re seven days into March, Mother Nature continues to showcase winterlike weather forecasts all across Iowa. The West Central Valley varsity boys track and field team are 19 days away from their first outdoor meet of the season in Earlham, and the Wildcats have had little practice time outside. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network had West Central Valley boys track coach Eric Addy on Monday’s Wahl McAtee Tire and Service Center Guthrie County PM Sports Page to discuss preseason storylines for the upcoming season. Addy says while he can’t control the weather, there are some things the team can work on indoors.
“You can work handoffs, you can work starts,” Addy said, “We can get guys conditioned (for the season),”
Addy feels the most significant thing he learned as a first-time track coach last spring is the importance of handoffs during relay events and plans on upping those repetitions in preseason practice. The 2019 West Central Valley varsity boys track season begins Tuesday, March 26, competing in the Earlham Early Bird Invitational.
