The Jefferson Police Department is asking for the public’s help and sending out a warning to area businesses of suspicious activity.
Police Chief Mark Clouse says a caucasian male and a hispanic female from Washington state have been using a credit card at local businesses asking for the clerk to enter the card number manually. Clouse tells Raccoon Valley Radio when a business does that, they are responsible for any incurred loss, due to circumventing the security aspects that the card has by the customer swiping it or using the chip reader. Clouse recommends to all businesses to not enter credit card information manually.
Clouse adds that the caucasian male and hispanic female are driving a blue PT Cruiser with Washington license plates. If anyone sees a vehicle with that description, you are to contact the police department at 386-2136.
