guthrie center schoolWe’re down to the home stretch for Homecoming Week festivities at the high schools in Guthrie County.

Guthrie Center High School will have its big parade tomorrow to announce its king and queen of the Homecoming Court for 2013.

One of the queen nominees is Student Body President Maddie Ruhland.  Ruhland says she was surprised by the nomination, but certainly thankful for the recognition from her peers.

“I’m really happy that my fellow classmates chose me to be on Court because that means that I’m a good influence on them, and it just made me feel really good.”

Ruhland says it is hard to believe this is her final Homecoming, but she’s enjoyed all the celebrations to this point.  She’s especially looking forward to participating in tomorrow’s parade and senior skit, where she of her friends will be making fun of the boys in her class.

For Ruhland, the entire Homecoming Week is a big deal because it’s a chance to celebrate being together with a community that is very tightly knit and truly enjoys helping others.

“Our class is really close and we care about each other, we can tell each other anything.  One of our fellow teachers has breast cancer right now so we’re doing a lot of fundraising…when we find out someone needs help, just instantly everyone comes together and we try to help out as much as we can.  I think that’s really, really neat.”

Tune in to today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County during the 9am, noon and 5 o’clock hours to hear our full conversation with Maddie about Homecoming Week and more.
