The West Central Valley School Board met in regular session Wednesday night.

A 2018 financial audit review and discussion on the north fenceline project were both tabled for the next meeting. The Board held a public hearing to discuss different options for the 2019-2020 school year calendar. Both options proposed would have more school days than the current year, but the second option would not have a weeklong spring break. First grade teacher Lori Cook spoke in defense of option one, “I mean I’ve always been a big proponent of spring break since we’ve had it. I’ve been here long enough to remember a time when we didn’t have it, and a lot of times we just were, it’s just a time to rejuvenate and to make it through those last nine weeks of school. So my opinion is I’d really like to see us keep it.”

After hearing staff, Board, and parent’s comments, Superintendent Lance Ridgely said he will further develop option one for the Board to approve in March. Ridgely also presented options for how the district could make up the six days lost this year due to weather. No action was taken, as Ridgely requested staff and Board feedback by the end of this week, with the possibility of a special meeting to be scheduled in the next couple weeks. Finally, the Board approved three early retirement applications and held an exempt session for negotiations strategy.
