A water main has been repaired, but mailboxes near the Jefferson Post Office will remain inaccessible until further notice.

Public Works Director Dave Morlan tells Raccoon Valley Radio they repaired a four-inch water main located just east of the post office that broke over the weekend. Morlan says they also repaired a drainage tile that they had to partially remove to get to the four-foot deep water main. Water service has been restored to all of the affected businesses that are on the south side of Lincoln Way and west of Wilson Avenue. However, Morlan notes those businesses are under a boil advisory as a precaution until water test samples come back negative for containmanents.

The mailboxes that are in the alleyway and east of the post office will remain closed. Morlan says they didn’t have enough white rock to cover where they had to dig into the pavement. He anticipates getting more white rock in from Fort Dodge later this week. Morlan adds that they couldn’t use their own white rock supply, due to there being four-feet of frost covering it.

Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
