Zach Beekman wrapped up his first year as a head wrestling coach at the State Tournament last week inside Wells Fargo Arena. The former Greene County middle school coach moved up to the head position this season and the result was an increase in participants, a 17-11 dual meet record, and two State Tournament qualifiers in seniors Brock Wuebker and Bryce Hoyle. Wuebker went 0-2 and Hoyle 1-2 against the best Class 2A competition in Iowa.

The coach was asked how it was being a head coach for the first time. “I really enjoyed it. My goals were pretty high and we didn’t hit all of them, but you don’t want to set low expectations. We’ll get our postseason weight lifting started pretty soon, and we’ll do more offseason stuff than last year. I think our program is headed in the right direction.”
