Several wrestlers took the mats at Wells Fargo Arena Thursday to open up the 2019 state tournament.
Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center had a good opening day, with all three qualifiers still alive in the tournament. Blaine Beeler and Easton Benson each won their opening matches and remain on trek for one of the top eight finalist positions, while Gunnar Larsen lost his opening match, but came back and won his first round consolation match.
West Central Valley had three qualifiers. Carson Wadle won his opening round match and will advance onto the championship quarterfinals at 195-pounds. Justin Garcia and Cole Sackett each lost twice on Thursday and saw their respective state tournament bids come to an end.
The Panorama Panthers had two state qualifiers. Wyatt Appleseth lost his opening round match, but won his first round consolation match and will get to wrestle in the second round of consolations later today. But for Garret Fox, his state tournament was cut short as his lost both of his matches and won’t advance on in the tournament.
