Three ACGC wrestlers begin their quest for a state title today at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Senior Blaine Beeler (120), sophomore Gunnar Larsen (132), and senior Easton Benson (138) will suit up for the gold and black, beginning this afternoon.
Beeler’s first round match is against Wapello’s Mitchell Moore. The junior was the Class 1A District 8 champion at 120 pounds and posts a record of 22-8. Moore enters as the #7 seed while Beeler enters as the #10 seed. Beeler is making his second appearance at the state tournament, with his first coming as a freshman for Guthrie Center High School in 2016.
Despite claiming the District 2 title in 132 pounds, Larsen begins the day as the #11 seed. Larsen will bout with Cascade’s Nolan Noonan, who enters as the #6 seed. The senior comes in with a record of 31-6 and was the runner-up in District 3. Larsen is making his debut at “The Well”.
Benson drew the #9 seed at 138 and will face Woodbury Central’s Nate Monahan. The junior has a record of 32-9 and is the District 6 champion. The winner of that match will likely face the undefeated and #1 seeded Cobe Siebrecht of Lisbon. This is also Benson’s first time qualifying for the state tournament.
