The best season this century for the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers girls basketball team will continue for a few more days. The Tigers welcomed Raccoon River Conference member Carlisle to town yesterday for a Class 4A Region 8 quarterfinal matchup. A suffocating first-half defensive effort coupled with an aggressive offensive approach helped ADM win the rubber match over Carlisle, 60-48. The Tigers, who shot 5-14 from the free throw line in a 58-46 loss at Carlisle February 5, converted 21 of 35 attempts in last night’s victory. ADM girls basketball coach Jacob Cleveland was proud of the number of attempts the Tigers had from the charity stripe, but would still like to see a better conversion rate. “(We) made the ones we needed to but that’s something we need to continue to work on,” Cleveland said, “Getting to the line was great (though), 35 times, that’s 16 more free throw (attempts) than they had. That’s a good thing that means they were getting into foul trouble and an opportunity for us to get free points.

ADM held Carlisle to 10 points in the first half. Junior Abbie Hlas led all scorers with 26 points, while junior Delaney Bertman registered a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds in the victory. The win improves ADM’s overall record to 15-8, a six-win improvement from last season. The Tigers advance to the Class 4A Region 8 semifinal round Saturday in eastern Iowa against the No. 3 Grinnell (17-2). The Raccoon Valley Radio Network will have live play by play coverage of contest on True Country K 107. FM, raccoonvalleyradio.com, and the KKRF mobile app. Pregame comments start around 6:30 p.m. and tip-off set for 7 p.m. at Grinnell High School.
