While the clock is running out on the federal government until another partial shutdown would occur tomorrow, the representative for Iowa’s 3rd District is ready to vote on yet another bill to continue government funding and increase border security.
The U.S. House is expected to vote on the new bill tonight, which would then head to the Senate floor for a vote before President Donald Trump could give his approval. Congresswoman Cindy Axne (D) says the House has previously passed 11 bills to reopen the government during the previous 35-day shutdown, and she says the Senate needs to step up to help keep the government open, “We’ll see what happens, I don’t have a crystal ball but I know our leadership is incredibly focused on reopening government. I think across the board, both Republicans and Democrats know how important that is and I hope that they understand that we can’t do what we did last time, which is shut down the government.”
This deadline comes as President Trump reopened the government three weeks ago following the longest government shutdown in U.S. history over border wall funding.
