State lawmakers are working to draft new sports betting legalization bills after four bills went nowhere last week.
House District 20 Representative Ray Sorensen (R) says he supports legalizing sports gambling, and while he said the legislature shouldn’t be “babysitting” every aspect of Iowans’ lives, he said the bill should include support for gambling addiction treatment. He also stated that proposed mobile gambling apps from the state’s casinos should be restrictive against minors. Sorensen says sports betting should be considered legal like the lottery and casinos, “I think we need to bring out of the black market and the underbelly this sports gambling, and we need to regulate it and tax it and make sure it’s done properly.”
You can hear more from Sorensen during today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County and you can hear him every other week as part of our Let’s Talk programs on Monday’s during the legislative session.
