Braden Gallagher (106), Joel Ward (160), Brock Wuebker (170), Clint Dennhardt (182), and Bryce Hoyle (195) will be representing Greene County High School today at a Class 2A District Tournament in Harlan. Action begins at 12 p.m. and the first and second place finishers in each of the 14 weight classes advance to the Feb. 14-15-16 State Tournament in Des Moines at Wells Fargo Arena. Gallagher and Ward are juniors and the other three are seniors.

The Harlan district is loaded with returning State qualifiers and wrestlers ranked tenth or higher this season. First year head coach Zach Beekman told Raccoon Valley Radio he is a lot more concerned with what his wrestlers do than with who they wrestle. “I stress to them that you’ve got to continue to do your thing and perfect your moves. You don’t have to worry about what your opponent’s going to do. It’s nice to be aware of it, but you don’t change the way you wrestle just because your opponent throws the legs in or has this kind of takedown. You continue to do your thing and if you’re on the offensive attack, you have even less to worry about because you’re just going to keep going and going and going after that guy. So we don’t look too heavily at anyone else. As far as that’s concerned, I couldn’t tell you who anybody wrestles at this point.”

Winterset, Southwest Iowa (Corning), Creston, Clarinda, Red Oak Shenandoah, Atlantic, Harlan, OABCIG (Ida Grove), Sergeant Bluff-Luton, and Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) are the other 11 schools with wrestlers at Harlan today.
