As the cellar dwellers of the Raccoon River Conference last season, the Adel-Desoto-Minburn varsity boys basketball team suffered 11 losses by double digits during their 3-19 campaign. ADM’s turnaround 2018-19 campaign continued Tuesday night in Carlisle where the Tigers tallied their 10th victory of the regular season, 75-58. What’s more impressive is that of ADM’s eight losses this season, none have been by more than nine points. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network spoke with ADM boys basketball coach Aaron Mager about the growth of his team this season. He says the team’s learning from late-game mistakes made earlier this season. “You could go through the DCG (game), the one at Pella, the (contest) at Ballard, clock management, late-game management, we didn’t do as good of a job as we needed to.” Mager said, “We weren’t making free throws, we didn’t take care of the ball very well when we got pressed. Those are clutch things in the fourth quarter that you got to be able to do.”
ADM have had fourth-quarter leads in four of their eight losses this season. The Tigers have three games remaining on their regular season schedule. ADM closes their Raccoon River Conference season tomorrow night in Boone against the Toreadors. Boone topped ADM in Adel, 59-52, on January 11. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network will have live play by play coverage of the game on True Country K 107.9, raccoonvalleyradio.com, and the KKRF mobile app. Pregame comments start at 5:30 p.m., the varsity girls game tips off at 6 p.m. with the boys’ contest to follow.
