Greene County will take a three game boys’ basketball losing streak into the Feb. 11 Class 2A postseason after the Rams lost on Tuesday night in Alleman to North Polk. Coach Chris Nelson’s team ended regular season play with a 70-63 loss to the Comets and a record of seven wins and 15 losses. The Rams finished the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference slate at 4-10. NP improved to 4-8 in the conference and 5-13 overall. The game was heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

The game saw the lead change hands in the first half with Greene County up 17-16 after one quarter and 34-32 at halftime. The Comets scored the first 16 points of the second half to lead 48-34, but the Rams responded, led by junior reserve Cael Fisher. He led the Rams with 17 points, a career high, the great majority coming in a 20-1 Greene County run that saw the Rams lead 54-49 with just over five minutes left in the game. From that point on, NP went on a 21-9 run to close out the victory.

Four Comets scored in double figures with Colten Parkins leading the way with 19 points. The Comets made eight three-point shots and scored 16 points above their normal average.

Junior Carter Morton added 16 points for the Rams and junior Tyler Miller had 12, all in the first half. He did not play after being assessed a technical foul with 3:58 to play in the third quarter. Leading Greene County scorer Trey Hinote, the only senior on the team, received a technical foul with 3:07 left in the third. He returned to the floor in the fourth quarter, but was held to six points, all in the first half. The Rams finished with six three-point goals.

Greene County enters the Class 2A District tournament in Ogden on Feb. 11 at 6:30 p.m. vs. Southeast Valley (Gowrie) on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
