After falling behind by 16 points in the third quarter, the Greene County High School boys’ basketball team charged back to get within two points of Roland-Story Monday night in Story City, but in the end, the Norsemen answered the Rams and won the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference contest, 70-61. The loss dropped the Rams to 7-14 on the season and 4-9 in the conference. R-S improved to 9-10 and 6-7. The teams split the two game season series, each winning on its home court. Monday’s game was broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
R-S hit the Rams with 13 baskets from three-point range on 31 attempts. Add in Carroll High’s 12-3’s on Saturday and the last two Greene County opponents went 25 of 63 beyond the arc. R-S scored 16 points above its season average, while Greene County fell two points short of its average points per game.
The Norsemen had 24 points from Kade Faga, who averaged nine points going into the contest. Dylan Ihle scored 12 and Ben Chelsvig and Carter Greenfield each added 10 points.
The Rams made seven three-point baskets, led by its lone senior, Trey Hinote. He sank four of the long-range goals and finished with a game high 31 points. Carter Morton was the only other Ram to reach double figures in points with 11. Tyler Miller fouled out with 2:39 to play after scoring eight points and Nick Breon added seven.
