The Greene County defense did its part, but the offense wasn’t quite up to the task as the Rams lost 40-24 on Monday night in Story City to Class 3A number 11 Roland-Story. Coach Tyler Westhoff’s Rams fell to 1-19 on the season and 1-12 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference action while the Norsemen improved to 15-5 and 10-3. The Rams held R-S eight points below its season scoring average. Eleven different players scored points, but none had more than eight, led by Madeline Morton. Offensively, Greene County hit its game average, at 24, points. Brianna Habben had nine points and Lily Muir added six. Starter Bailey Cunningham missed the game due to illness.

The Rams led 5-3 early, then R-S went on a 19-1 run. The lead was as many as 20 points late for the Norsemen. Greene County turned the ball over 26 times and was only able to get off 24 shots, making seven.

Greene County ends the regular season tonight with a girl/boy doubleheader at Alleman vs. NP. The Comets are ranked number one in Iowa girls’ Class 3A teams. Coverage on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com starts at 5:45 p.m. with the girls playing at 6 p.m. and the boys to follow.
