The Perry varsity basketball teams came up empty Thursday night in both games of a doubleheader against Carroll, falling 54-33 in the girls game and 73-49 in the boys.
The games had been rescheduled due to inclement weather over the last two weeks, and were the front end of back-to-back contests. The Jayettes managed to keep the game close against the visiting Tigers in the first half, trailing at halftime by a score of 24-19. However, Carroll turned it on the third quarter, taking a 39-23 lead into the final period. Perry was unable to get it any closer, ultimately falling by a final score of 54-33. The Jayettes were led once again by junior Molly Lutmer, who scored 19 points in the loss.
The boys team also kept their game close in the early going, trailing 17-9 after the first quarter. However, things quickly got out of hand in the second, as Carroll finished the period with a 41-24 lead. The Bluejays managed to stay relatively within striking distance the rest of the game, fending off any running clock scenarios. However, the Tigers halftime lead proved too big to come back from, and Perry fell 73-49 when the final buzzer sounded. The Bluejays were led by 16 points from junior Brendan Ivory, playing his sixth game since returning to the court in 2019.
The losses drop the Jayettes to 1-16 and the Bluejays to 0-15. They won’t have much time to dwell on the defeats, however, as their next games are tonight at home against Ballard. Make sure to catch all the action live on AM 1310, FM 99.7 KDLS, with pregame starting at 5:45 p.m.
