Only the postseason remains for the Greene County High School wrestling team. How many individuals will advance from the Sectional in Ida Grove tomorrow onto the District meet on Feb. 9 in Harlan? That question will start to get answered at 12 p.m. Saturday as OABCIG plays host to Greene County, Atlantic, Harlan, Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) and Class 2A tenth ranked Sergeant Bluff-Luton.

Saturday’s first and second place teams advance to a dual meet regional on Feb. 5 in an effort to qualify the entire team for the State Dual Meet Tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 13 in Des Moines at Wells Fargo Arena. The first and second place individuals in each of the 14 weight classes at Ida Grove move on to the Harlan District. The top two at the Harlan District will advance to the Feb. 14-15-16 State Wrestling, also at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

Zach Beekman is in his first season heading the Greene County program. He told Raccoon Valley Radio the focus Saturday will be on getting individual district qualifiers. “It’ll be a dogfight. I tell them all the time that somebody has to step up and show us how bad you want it.”

SB-L won the largely Class 3A Missouri River Valley Conference tournament. Atlantic won the Hawkeye 10 Conference tourney and Harlan was second. Every school at the Sectional with the exception of Greene County has one or more wrestlers ranked in the top 10 of their respective weight classes by The Predicament.
