A very cold three-day stretch begins today in the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory for Greene until noon today, while the advisory extends until 6pm for Dallas and Guthrie counties. The advisory will then turn into a wind chill warning for Greene County from noon today through 9am Thursday and for Dallas County it’ll be in effect from 6pm tonight through Thursday morning. Guthrie County will then be under the warning from 6pm tonight through Wednesday morning. The main threats with both the advisories and warnings are the dropping temperatures and high wind gusts.

The National Weather Service estimates temperatures to be 20 to 30 degrees below zero throughout the day today, with wind gusts between 30 to 35-miles-per-hour. By tomorrow morning, wind chills could force temperatures to be as low as 40 to 50 degrees below zero and then rising to 25 degrees below zero during the day. On Thursday, temperatures stay between 20 to 30 degrees below zero in the morning and then bump up to five to ten degrees below zero in the afternoon.

Motorists are urged to pay attention to the roadways for blowing and drifting snow, especially during the morning and evening commutes. Drive to the conditions of the road. The one to count on for winter weather coverage, as well as cancellation and postponement information is the Raccoon Valley Radio Network.
