Greene County wrestled at the ACGC Charger Invitational on Saturday in Guthrie Center and finished in twelfth place among 18 teams. The highest finish for the Rams came from senior Brock Wuebker at 170 lbs. He was the top seed in the weight class and entered the day with just one loss on the season. He received a first round bye, then won by fall in the quarterfinals and semifinals before dropping a 12-5 decision to Cale Pritchett of Woodward-Granger in the finals.
Wuebker trailed 6-3 after two periods, then closed the gap to 6-5 before intentionally allowing an escape with time running out, then trying for a match-tying takedown. Instead, Pritchett came through with a takedown and three-point near fall for the final margin.
Other Rams placing in the top eight were junior Braden Gallagher (106), sophomore Brady Stauffer (132), and senior Clint Dennhardt (182), all finishing fifth. Junior Joel Ward (160) and junior Matt Naberhaus (285) were both eighth.
The regular season is over for the Rams. They’ll wrestle on Saturday in Ida Grove in a Class 2A Sectional Tournament along with tenth ranked Sergeant Bluff-Luton, Atlantic, Harlan, Kuemper Catholic, and the host OABCIG Falcons.
