The final regular season tune-up for the Panorama Panthers varsity wrestling team took the squad to a neighboring Guthrie County School District Saturday. The Panthers made the short drive from Panora to Guthrie Center this weekend to compete in the annual Charger Invitational tournament hosted by AC/GC Community Schools. Panorama had no wrestler take home first place honors at the event, finishing eighth in the final team standings with 101 points. Sophomore Wyatt Appleseth (145; 34-3) had the best finish for Panorama, taking second overall in his weight class. Appleseth won three matches overall but lost by a 19-9 major decision in the championship round to Underwood’s Blake Thomsen. Other notable place winners for Panorama include sophomore Logan Christe (113) and senior Noah Kirtley (152) finishing fifth, junior Emery Colby (160) taking sixth, and senior Garrett Fox (170) placing seventh. The Panorama Panthers varsity wrestling team returns to Guthrie Center this weekend for the Class 1A Section 1 tournament hosted by AC/GC Community Schools. The event includes grapplers from AC/GC, AHSTW, Exira-EHK, Nodaway Valley, Ogden, Panorama, and West Central Valley. The top two wrestlers in each weight class advance to the Class 1A District 1 tournament at Interstate 35 High School on Saturday, February 9. This weekend’s sectional tournament commences at noon Saturday from AC/GC High School in Guthrie Center.
