Cleveland

The new man guiding the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers varsity girls basketball squad is finding success in his second stint as a head coach. Jacob Cleveland’s first chance leading a high school basketball program came in the winter of 2014 at Des Moines East High School. He amassed 11 wins in three seasons with the Scarlets boys basketball team before exiting after the 2016-17 season. Friday’s 68-39 victory over the Perry Jayettes marked ADM’s 11th win in 17 games under Cleveland tutelage, and the Raccoon Valley Radio Network got a chance to ask the Tigers new coach about his finding success so early into his tenure. “My time at (Des Moines) East was a great experience, but the wins just didn’t come, and it was a difficult situation,” Cleveland said, “I won’t lie to you, I’ve have been keeping track (of our wins). It’s nice to get 11, (and) we want to continue to break that. I’m blessed, I thank god every day that I’ve gotten this opportunity to be in this community, to coach these girls, it’s a dream come true.”

Since QuikstatsIowa started complying team records for high school sports teams during the 2006-07 season, ADM girls basketball hasn’t won more than 13 games in a single season. The first attempt at win number 12 this winter comes tonight for the Tigers at home against Raccoon River Conference rival Winterset. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network brings you live play by play of the varsity doubleheader on True Country K 107.9, raccoonvalleyradio.com, and the KKRF mobile app. Pregame comments start around 5:30 p.m. from ADM’s North Gym, the varsity girls game tips off at 6 p.m. with the boys’ contest to follow.
