The postseason tournament schedule began over the weekend for the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers varsity wrestling team. The 2019 Raccoon River Conference tournament featured grapplers from all eight member schools and was hosted this winter by Bondurant-Farrar Community Schools. ADM returns to Dallas County with two individual conference champions, finishing sixth in the team standings with 118.5 points. Senior Andrew Flora (126; 33-0) claimed another individual title, grinding out a 2-1 decision win against Winterset’s Bryce Hatten in the championship match. Junior Kaden Sutton (220; 30-4) was ADM’s other conference champion, registering a third-period technical fall (16-1; 4:33) over Carlisle’s Tommy Jones in the title match. Senior Nolan Harsh (182; 32-1) suffered his first loss of the season in his conference championship match, losing a 13-9 decision against Boone’s Taner Harvey. Other ADM place winners from this weekend’s Raccoon River Conference tournament include junior Broderick Schmidt (152) and sophomore Justice Paulsen (195) both finishing third. Sophomore Cole Williamson (120) placed fourth, senior Kolten Benz (138) finished fifth while senior Hogan Hopewell (132) and freshman Cooper Greenslade (106) each ended the tournament sixth overall. This Saturday marks the beginning of postseason wrestling in Iowa with sectional tournaments all across the state. ADM is in the Class 2A Section 1 tournament in Huxley with grapplers from Ballard, North Polk, Saydel, Van Meter-Earlham, and Woodward-Granger. First and second place wrestlers from this weekend advance to the district tournament Saturday, February 9, at ADM Community Schools. This weekend’s sectional tournament begins at noon from Ballard High School in Huxley.
