(Update 2 p.m.) The Raccoon Valley Radio Network has learned that tonight’s Raccoon River Conference varsity doubleheader between ADM and Winterset in Adel is postponed for a second time this week. ADM Activities Director Reece Satre made the announcement early this afternoon due to continued winter weather threats. The teams were originally scheduled to close their league regular season schedule Tuesday night before a winter storm dropped multiple inches of snow in the region. A new makeup date is currently being discussed between the schools, but Satre did confirm the twin bill won’t be played this weekend due to the ADM Booster Club basketball tournament on Saturday. Weather permitting, ADM will host league rival Perry tomorrow evening for their final Raccoon River Conference meeting this season.
(Old Story) Optimism around the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers varsity basketball team (7-6 overall; 5-3 RRC) has fluctuated since the last time the squad squared off against the Winterset Huskies. The Tigers 63-48 victory in Madison County on December 7 sent positivity soaring throughout the program, resulting in a five-game overall winning streak last month. January hasn’t treated ADM well to this point, posting a 1-4 record this month and losing their previous four games by a combined total of 13 points. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network spoke with ADM boys basketball coach Aaron Mager about his team’s recent slide. He shared he hasn’t seen the same attitude and effort from the players as they brought at the beginning of the season. “What changed was our enthusiasm and our mindset of expecting to win.” Mager said, “I think we still expected to win (during our losing streak) but I don’t know if we put the effort lately behind that as much (as we had previously).”ADM held fourth-quarter leads in three of their previous four losses with missed free throws and untimely turnovers resulting in the unwelcomed slide. The Winterset Huskies (7-5 overall) have played better since the start of 2019, posting a 4-2 record since the holiday moratorium period ended. The Huskies latest win came at Mel Penrod Gymnasium Monday evening, topping the Creston Panthers, 64-52. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network will provide live play by play coverage of tonight’s ADM basketball doubleheader versus Winterset on True Country K 107.9. Pregame coverage from ADM’s North Gym starts around 5:30 p.m., the varsity girls game tips off at 6 p.m. and the boys’ contest will follow.
