(Update 11:05 a.m.) Mother Nature’s winter blast across Iowa continues affecting high school sporting events in the Hawkeye State. School officials at Lynnville Sully High School have cancelled tonight’s quadrangular dual involving the Panorama Panthers due to the weather. Weather forecasts across Iowa are calling for wind chills well below freezing throughout the rest of today and high wind gusts coupled with blowing snow will make travel dangerous. The nonconference dual event won’t be made up with postseason tournaments starting next week. The Panorama Panthers varsity wrestling team hopes the weather will cooperate this weekend so they can attend the annual Charger Invitational tournament in Guthrie Center on Saturday.
(Old Story) The next event in the Panorama Panthers varsity wrestling schedule takes the squad to eastern Iowa tonight. The Panthers will visit Lynnville for a nonconference quadrangular against the Lynnville-Sully Hawks, the North Polk Comets, and the Pleasantville Trojans. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network spoke with Panther varsity wrestling coach Jason Kirtley on Monday’s Wahl McAtee Tire and Service Center Guthrie County PM Sports Page. Kirtley talked about matching up against West Central Activites Conference newcomer Pleasantville. “Pleasantville’s rebuilt themselves from last year, so that’ll be a tough dual; I think they have all their weights covered,” Kirtley said, “We saw (Pleasantville) at the conference (tournament) earlier (this season), and we had some close matches with them. We’re going to definitely need some bonus points to beat (the Trojans).”
Panorama’s last competition came a week ago in Truro in a quadrangular event against league members the Interstate 35 Roadrunners and the Van Meter Bulldogs along with nonconference foe Southeast Warren. The Panthers only team victory came against Southeast Warren, 36-30. Panorama elected to skip the annual John J Harris Invitational tournament last Saturday with weather condensing the event to one day. Tonight’s quadrangular tournament at Lynnville Sully High School commences with first matches at 5:30 p.m.
