The ACGC girls basketball team returned to above-500 play Monday night after scoring a program record 71 points in a 71-65 victory over the Southwest Valley Timberwolves.
The game was tight through the first three quarters of play. The Chargers had a one point lead at the end of the first quarter, but the T’Wolves held the one point advantage at the half. Both teams entered the fourth tied at 44, but some clutch baskets by sophomore Jorja Hoover and rebounds by freshman Chloe Largent helped the gold and black to their ninth win of the season. Sophomore Kylie Young netted a team high 14 points while Hoover chipped in a career high 12 for the Chargers. Southwest Valley senior Morgan Shuey led all scores with 24.
The ACGC boys team took the momentum from the girls contest and cruised over the Timberwolves 79-54. The Chargers never trailed in the inaugural meeting between the two schools. Juniors Bryce Littler and Quynton Younker each had 14 points to lead all Chargers. Southwest Valley senior Jacob Webb led all scores with 19.
In both the girls and boys contests, nine different Chargers scored at least two points. Both squads will have a couple days to prepare for a West Central Activities Conference showdown with the Van Meter Bulldogs in Guthrie Center Thursday night.
