U.S. Representative for Iowa’s Third Congressional District Cindy Axne (D) will be representing the state’s farmers on the national political stage.
Axne was recently appointed to the House Agriculture Committee, following the removal of Congressman Steve King from his committees, including agriculture, after comments he made about white nationalism and white supremacy.
Axne comments on her appointment, “Well, I am just so excited to be representing Iowa on the Agriculture Committee, you’re probably familiar but it was one of the committees that I requested to be on. I actually got on both the committees that I requested and I think that the message what it sends is that leadership truly understands how important it is to have an Iowa voice on the committee. And so I’m just thrilled I think there’s so much opportunity for me to help our agriculture community, certainly our farmers and move us forward in the direction that will help all of this industry economically.”
Axne says her first priority for the agriculture sector is getting the federal government back open, and she commented on the significance of the Farm Service Agency’s temporary reopening to help producers process loans and other payments. She was also appointed this week to the Financial Services Committee, which oversees federal monetary policy, banking and financial institutions, insurance, trade, housing, and community development.
