This Saturday, the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High School Speech Team will be heading up Highway 169 to participate in the District Large Group Speech Contest held at Perry High School.
Speech Coach Jacque Seidl says about 85 students will be performing 19 entries during the competition, and she’s confident each of them will have a good showing. Seidl says she was nervous heading into this year since she lost many students from last year’s team to graduation, including the majority of the All-State qualifying choral reading group. However, she says this year’s students have shown a great work ethic and she believes each group has a good chance of advancing to the State Contest.
The District Contest will be held all day Saturday in Perry, though if it’s postponed due to weather it will be held on Wednesday, January 23rd. The public is encouraged to attend, and there is a $3 suggested entry fee that will support the host school’s speech team. Those who receive “I ratings” at district will advance to State, which will be held Saturday, February 2nd at West Des Moines – Valley High School.
