Weather permitting, the Panorama Panther varsity basketball teams have a home-heavy schedule the rest of this month. The Panthers begin a five-game homestand tonight against West Central Activities Conference opponent the Madrid Tigers. If Mother Nature cooperates, the Panthers will also play home games against AC/GC (Friday, January 18), Nodaway Valley (Monday, November 21), Earlham (Friday, January 25), and Greene County (Monday, January 28) before their next road contest on Tuesday, January 29 at Ogden. The Raccoon Valley Radio Network caught up with Panorama girls basketball coach Dan Druivenga Monday afternoon and asked about the upcoming homestand. He says it’s always nice playing in front of the home fans. “You shoot better at home, the crowds on your side,” Druivenga said, “Everything’s better at home). We’re looking forward to playing at home. (It) seems like we’ve been on the road a lot this year. Having home court is better than going on the road.”
The Panthers split their league varsity doubleheader against Madrid during their first meeting on December 7. The Panorama girls basketball team topped the Tigers, 62-39, while Madrid Tigers won the boys contest, 79-56. The varsity doubleheader between Panorama and Madrid starts with the girls’ game around 6 p.m. and the boys to follow from Panorama High School in Panora.
