A reminder to all area residents, those looking to get their name on the November City Council election ballot need to act quick.

Nomination papers are due Thursday and available on the Secretary of State website or in the City Clerk’s office at city hall.

Eligible candidates must be a citizen of the United States, be a resident of Iowa and at least 18 years old.  Candidates must not be a convicted felon, unless voting rights have been restored by the president or governor.  They cannot be currently judged as incompetent to vote by a court or claim the right to vote in another place.

Offices up for election in Perry are Mayor – which is a two year term, along with the 2nd ward and an At-Large council members – both of which are 4 year terms.

Current Mayor Jay Pattee has taken out paperwork and says if re-elected, this will likely be his last term in office.   Councilman Dr. Randy McCaulley is also seeking to retain his spot in the 2nd ward, though the At-Large position remains open because Councilwoman Jenny Eklund does not plan to run again.

Anyone with questions can call City Hall at 465-2481.
