A pair of free programs are happening this Sunday through Dallas County Conservation, and the public is encouraged to sign up.
Throughout 2019, Conservation will be celebrating the 70th anniversary of Iowan ecologist Aldo Leopold’s book, “The Sand County Almanac,” and the first program in the series is Sunday from 2:30-4:30 p.m. at Forest Park Museum. The event will include a viewing of the award-winning documentary on Leopold’s work, titled “The Green Fire.” Following the film screening and discussion, Conservation will officially kick off its “Leopold Bench Project” for the rest of the year.
Later that evening, naturalists invite the community to their lunar eclipse viewing party. Attendees will learn all about what causes the moon to be blotted out, followed by an opportunity to wander out into the dark night to view the show. The event will be held at 9 p.m. at the Kuehn Conservation Area. Registration is required for both the Leopold event and Lunar Eclipse Party, though the events are free to attend.
