Whether it’s girls’ basketball, boys’ basketball, or wrestling, the Greene County High School teams will be facing high level competition this week.

First year head coach Zach Beekman’s wrestlers are first up. The wrestling Rams face Class 2A number one ranked PCM in Monroe as part of a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference double-dual on Thursday. South Hamilton (Jewell) will also participate with action starting at 6 p.m. The Mustangs are loaded with past State Tournament qualifiers, including 2018 State Champion Lucas Roland who is at 182 lbs. On Saturday, Greene County will wrestle in Eldora at the South Hardin Invitational. Included in that field are Class 1A number two ranked Denver with 10 individuals ranked in The Predicament’s top 10. Other highly regarded teams and individuals are also schedule to be at Eldora on Saturday.

Greene County’s basketball teams play just once this week, but both teams the Rams face are rated. Greene County goes to Gilbert on Friday night. The Tigers are number 14 in the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Class 4A poll, while the Gilbert boys show up in the number six spot in 3A in multiple rankings.

Friday’s basketball doubleheader will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Coverage begins at 5:45 p.m. with the girls playing at 6 p.m. and the boys to follow.
