The worst of the polar vortex that enveloped the Midwest this week is nearly over, as a Wind Chill Advisory is set to expire at 10 a.m. this morning.

A Wind Chill Warning ended at 6 p.m. Wednesday for Guthrie County and at midnight for Dallas and Greene counties as record setting lows of 20 below zero were recorded Wednesday in Guthrie Center and Perry by the National Weather Service. These dangerously cold wind chills can cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes, as well as hypothermia or death if precautions are not taken. Highs are expected today nearing 10 degrees in Dallas, Greene, and Guthrie counties, as well as a chance of flurries. Temperatures will then jump to around 30 degrees Friday with mostly sunny skies expected. Listen to Raccoon Valley Radio for weather updates.
