It’s been a long summer for head coach David Zwank and his ADM cross country team.
The boys and girls’ first meet was cancelled last Thursday due to the heat, but now that the high temperatures have come and gone, it’s finally time to run.
ADM opens up its 2013 season tomorrow afternoon at Urbandale Middle School. Zwank says he took the meet off the schedule the past couple years due to work being done on the course, but now it’s back, and he feels the race will be a good test for his runners.
“It’s gonna be all 4-A schools besides us so that will be some good competition, but they also have lots of kids. We’ll be in the mix there, so I’m looking forward to that. It’s nice–we have our first three meets that are really set up as grade-level type meets where you can just put everybody out there, they can run. I don’t have to worry about setting out a varsity team per say, and so things kinda sort themselves out a little bit initially, and for our sport that works pretty well.”
ADM also runs at Winterset next Tuesday in its second meet of the year. Stay tuned to Raccoon Valley Radio for updates on the team’s progress all season long.
