Friday, August 30th

A deputy assisted the Midland Power Cooperative with serving a disconnect notice to a rural resident in the 1500 block of T Avenue.

A deputy was asked to help convince a 3rd grader at the Churdan School that he needed to go inside the building and attend classes. The young man reluctantly complied.

A deputy checked the report of a campfire along the Raccoon River near the Bike Trail trestle bridge. The land owner was concerned that the fire may start a timber fire. The deputy asked that the fire be extinguished and the two individuals were instructed to leave the private property.

A deputy was advised by the Greene County Medical Center Emergency Room personnel, that they had treated a patient from the Grand Junction area that had reportedly blacked out and walked into the side of a train. The individual was transported to the medical center by private vehicle. The patient was later transported to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines for further medical treatment. The condition of the individual is not known at this time and the investigation is ongoing.

A deputy was asked to check the report of a vehicle that was parked in the middle of the roadway near 290th Street and M Avenue. The deputy was not able to locate the vehicle upon his arrival.

A deputy was advised of a careless and erratic driver on 140th Street East of Churdan.  The vehicle was never located by the deputy.

A deputy was dispatched to the Sparky’s One Stop in Churdan for a reported gas drive off. The deputy will be viewing the surveillance camera footage to determine the identity of the car.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office was advised by a rural Greene County resident that she had received a telephone call from an individual wanting personal information that was contained on her computer. The resident did not comply with the caller’s demands as she was aware of this phone scam.

A deputy was dispatched to a car-deer accident on Highway 30 (220th Street) one mile west of Scranton. A 2008 Pontiac that was being driven by Triccia Winkelman of Scranton was eastbound on 220th Street when a deer bounded onto the roadway striking the Winkelman vehicle on the driver’s side door and front fender. Winkelman was not injured but her vehicle did sustain $1500 in damages.

A deputy while on routine patrol in Paton initiated a traffic stop and subsequently arrested Daniel David Pelican of Fort Dodge, Iowa, for operation of a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Saturday, August 31st

A deputy helped the Jefferson Police Department with a reported altercation at Doc’s Bar in Jefferson. The deputy helped transport one of two male subjects that were arrested to the law enforcement center.

A deputy was asked to do a welfare check on a resident in Churdan. The resident was located by cell phone and he instructed the deputy that everything was fine.

Sunday, September 1st

A deputy was dispatched to the 800 block of North 11th Street in Grand Junction for the report of a suspicious person walking around the same address, harassing the residents inside. The unknown female in question was not located upon the deputy’s arrival.

A deputy was asked to help locate a family of four that were experiencing mechanical problems with their vehicle. The deputy did locate the car but the occupants had already been given a ride to their home.

A deputy assisted the Grand Junction Fire and Rescue and the Greene County Emergency Medical Services personnel with a male that needed medical help at Spring Lake Park. The male patient was transported to the Greene County Medical Center for further evaluation.

A deputy was advised of an electrical power pole that was on fire at Redwood Avenue just south of the Pleasant Hill Church. The Jefferson Fire Department and Midland Power also responded to the scene. It was reported that lightning may have struck the power pole earlier in the day.

A deputy was asked to check and determine the owner of a vehicle that has been parked in the 500 block of East Hagar Street in Grand Junction for several days. The deputy did determine the ownership of the car and placed a 24 hour tow tag on the vehicle.

Monday, September 2nd

A deputy was dispatched to Cooper for a reported trespassing complaint. The deputy found several out of county persons were using metal detectors on private property.   The two male subjects were informed that most of Cooper is now private property and they need to ask permission before they proceed.

A deputy was asked by a Dana resident to issue a citation to her under age son for smoking. The deputy did speak with the youth and he did admit to smoking tobacco for the past several months. The deputy did issue a citation for a minor using tobacco.

A deputy was dispatched to Paton for the report of youth riding dirt bike motorcycles on the public roadway. The deputy spoke with the mother of the youth and reiterated that they were not to be operating the bikes on the public streets or other people’s private property.

A deputy was advised by a Grand Junction Municipal Light and Power employee that one of their electrical transformers was struck and sustained major damage causing a power outage for that city block. The hit and run accident is under investigation at this time.

A deputy was advised of a horse on the roadway two miles north of Scranton on Eaton Avenue. The owner of the horse could not be reached at that time, so the deputy assisted a neighbor in corralling the horse.

Several Grand Junction residents came to the law enforcement center to report a theft of personal property from a residence in the 300 block of 7th Street. The theft is under investigation at this time.

In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
