One of the benefits of the one-to-one laptop program coming to the Perry School District this fall is something we might not think about right away… a lighter backpack.
New Director of Teaching and Learning, Kevin Vidergar says having laptops could mean not having to carry textbooks.
“A lot of the textbooks now, when you purchase them you get an automatic copy of the e-book with it and then there’s also the option to just buy the E copy. So then we could move very quickly to just buying class sets of the actual hard copy book and then every student would have a license to their own book. When they get that book online, they can highlight on it, they can write notes on it, they can do all these things on it and keep it online and then the very next year when they move up, I just go in, reset the account and the book kind of resets itself and we’re ready for the next student to take it over” says Vidergar.
Overall, Vidergar says everyone is becoming more and more excited about the rollout.
We’ll have more with Vidergar and Technology Director Rich Nichols on today’s Let’s Talk Dallas County on AM 1310 KDLS during the 9am, noon and 5pm hours.
