December 14, 2012.

It is a date people across the country will remember for a long time.

On that day, twenty young students and six staff members from Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut lost their lives in a tragic school shooting.

To provide support for those still carrying on at Sandy Hook, the Stuart Public Library has developed a relationship from afar with the Parent Teacher Association there.

Director Sandy Pollard says the library sent more than a hundred snowflakes with heartfelt notes to help aid Sandy Hook as they mourn and try to recover.

Upon receiving a generous thank you letter recently from the school, Pollard says the Stuart Library has decided to institute a new program.

“We’re just in the initial stages… We’re gonna start a ‘kindness’ program where people come together, kids.  Maybe we’ll have a separate one for adults.  Life can be kind of hard sometimes, and so, the best way to combat that is through kindness to others.”
