Nurses at Guthrie County Public Health will be in the midst of a big transition over the next couple of months. Starting on Wednesday, nurses will start webinar training for electronic charting that will make patient care more efficient.
Nurse Administrator Lisa Chiodo says the opportunity to implement electronic charting came about through the Iowa Department of Public Health, in joint effort with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Guthrie County Public Health will also incorporate electronic billing so that it can accept payment from all the private insurance companies in the county.
Chiodo says the new system is all about inner-connectivity in linking one electronic charting record with another.
“We have a long way to go, but the first step is to start people on the platform or at least have an electronic charting so that eventually all systems would be connected so that eventually all systems would be connected and you’d be able to extrapolate the data from home health, public health, the hospitals and that type of thing so you have a better patient background at your fingertips.”
Chiodo says she hopes to have the electronic charting system fully in place by November.
