guthrie county fairWe’ve had coverage of the Guthrie County Fair all week, and some of you may have even experienced the 2013 version already.

We’ve also given you tips for how to stay cool during the heat advisory currently in effect throughout central Iowa.

Well, today is supposed to be hottest day of the week according to the National Weather Service, with a heat index upwards of 105 degrees by mid-afternoon.  Guthrie County Public Health Nurse Administrator Lisa Chiodo says there is one necessity for fairgoers this weekend.

“Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.  You’ll want to take your bottles of water with you with.  You always want to use your water or your half fruit-juice, half water combination.  You want to stay away from your caffeinated beverages like your sodas and things because caffeine will dehydrate you because it actually is a diuretic where it’s pulling the fluid out of your body and you want to really stay away from that.”

Chiodo also encourages everybody to enjoy the fair’s activities in moderation and find shade when you can, especially for young children and the elderly.

Guthrie County Public Health will be at the fair all weekend to answer any heat concerns or other health-related questions.
