Coach Mark Sawhill’s Greene County Rams were 9-3 Heart of Iowa Activities Conference winners on Wednesday night in Jefferson over South Hamilton (Jewell) in a make up game. The Rams are 13-15 overall and 6-10 in the conference while SH ended the regular season and HOIAC season with records of 11-13 and 6-12.
Sophomore pitcher Riah Nelsen picked the complete game win. He walked two, struck out 11, and allowed four hits, en route to improving to 5-0 this season. One of the Hawks’ runs was unearned. He has 51 strikeouts and just eight walks in 38 innings this season.
The Rams scored four times in the second inning, three in the third, and two in the sixth. SH had a run in the fourth and two in the seventh.
Greene County had 11 hits with three singles by Dylan McConnell, two base hits and two runs batted in from Alex Gordon. Colton Fitzpatrick had two singles and one RBI and T.J. Lint singled in a run. Nelsen and Reed Ostrander both doubled with Tory Beger adding a base hit.
The Rams host CMB (Maxwell) on KG98 tonight at 7:30 p.m. in another make up contest.
