The Greene County School Board of Directors met last night in regular session.
The Board approved putting a Voted Physical Plant and Equipment Levy option on a Greene County School District ballot during the September school election.
Superintendent Tim Christensen says a Voted PPEL is made up of an instructional support levy and an income surtax. Jefferson-Scranton has had a voter-approved Voted PPEL since 1996 and East Greene currently has a Voted PPEL. Jefferson-Scranton currently has a 7% instructional support levy.
Christensen points out that the maximum percentage that both an instructional support levy and income surtax rate can be is 20%. The Board approved setting the instructional support levy up another 13% to the full 20%. The income surtax rate was also approved by the Board to be set at the maximum amount of $1.34 per $1,000 assessed property value.
Greene County School District voters will have a chance to vote on the issue on September 10th’s election day.
