Iowa Lawmakers have put into effect a new whooping cough vaccination for students entering the 7th grade.
Lisa Chiodo, nurse administrator with Guthrie County Public Health says,
“Any child entering or advancing into the 7th grade would need proof of an adolescent whooping cough booster, T-dap and those can be received at Guthrie County public health.”
The health department is currently working with county school superintendents to get an additional Tdap clinic scheduled for the 2013-14 school year which begins in August.

This vaccination will protect children against whooping cough and also has a tetanus booster in it according to Chiodo.
However also grown-ups who have contact with infants should contact their health provider to receive a booster, added Chiodo.
To schedule an appointment to have your child receive the Tdap vaccination, call the Guthrie County Public Health Department at 641-747-3972.
