With the start of the 2019 US Legislative session now underway, the Democrats take over leadership of the House of Representatives following the November 2018 midterm elections.

Iowa’s 4th Congressional District Representative Steve King says with Democrat Nancy Pelosi as House Speaker, he expects it to be a struggle to get a lot accomplished in the House.

“It’s going to be a long and hard slug and the Senate has to be the backstop. And I think they (the House Democrats) will probably push some things through that the president will probably end up vetoing. And then we’ll probably have to step up, depending on the issue of course, and perhaps sustain the president’s veto.”

King also expects to be quite busy in the House Judiciary Committee, as the House Democrats will be bringing investigations against President Donald Trump.

“They’ve announced some 80 different investigations. That means that they will bring witnesses in and out of four witnesses, we (the Republicans) get to pick one and they (the Democrats) get to pick three. That’s fair enough, that’s how we handled it also when we were in the majority. It’s not going to be the most fun time.”

King adds that there was about 155 years of experience that recently retired off of the House Judiciary Committee, which he believes the committee will rely more on his years of experience.
