In a sudden turn of events, Marc Ray — the adoptive father of Sabrina Ray who was found dead in her adoptive parent’s home in Perry in May of 2017 — has reached a plea agreement with the Dallas County Attorney’s Office, and the hearing is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.
Fifth Judicial Court Judge Terry Rickers released a statement Thursday morning announcing the hearing. In the statement, Rickers apologized for the short notice, but said it was unavoidable due to the upcoming holiday schedule. Marc is expected to plead guilty for his involvement in the May 12, 2017 death of his adopted daughter, though the details of the plea agreement won’t be revealed until the hearing. Marc has been charged with 17 counts, with the most serious being first degree murder and three counts of first degree kidnapping, each of which is a class A felony.
Rickers said the hearing and plea agreement involves only Marc Ray, not his wife Misty, who is also charged with 15 counts related to Sabrina’s death. Two other defendants reached plea agreements this past year for their involvement in the 16-year-old’s death. Marc and Misty’s son, Justin Ray, and Misty’s mother, Carla Bousman, have already been sentenced to 10 and 20 years in prison, respectively. A fifth defendant, Misty’s niece Josie Bousman, agreed to testify against the other suspects and was to be tried separately.
The trials of Marc and Misty Ray were scheduled to begin on February 4, 2019 at the Woodbury County Courthouse in Sioux City. Though for the time being Misty is still expected to be tried at that time, Marc’s plea hearing will instead be Friday at 1 p.m. in the Dallas County Courthouse in Adel.
