As Guthrie County is experiencing extended fall-like weather conditions, residents disposing of yard waste are reminded of their City’s ordinance.

In Guthrie Center open burning of yard waste on a resident’s property is permitted year round. This includes grass clippings, leaves, garden waste, and brush. Trees are permitted to be burned on a City-operated burning site, conducted in compliance with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Residents wishing to dispose of yard waste can take it to the transfer station on 2349 Jaguar Trail. Residents are urged not to blow or rake leaves into City streets.

Panora City Code allows open burning of residential waste on properties of four residences or less, referred to as “Backyard Burning.” Open burning of trees and tree trimmings are permitted at a City-operated burning site, conducted in compliance with the DNR. Panora residents can dispose of tree branches and brush at a dump site located near the City’s water plant. A key must be obtained either at the plant or City Hall to access the dump.

For Stuart residents yard waste can be burned on a resident’s premises or can be placed in degradable bags, containers, or packages and set out for collection at such times set by the City Council. You can find more information on these collections by calling City Hall at 515-523-1455.
