Greene County head football coach and activities director Mitch Moore is leaving the Rams to become the new head football coach at Des Moines Roosevelt High School. Among Iowa’s largest schools, Roosevelt, a member of the CIML’s Metro Division, went 3-6 last year. Greene County was 8-2 in 2018 in his second season with the Rams. The team tied for first place in Class 2A District 9, qualified for the playoffs and finished with a top 10 ranking in 2A. Greene County went 1-8 in Moore’s first season with the Rams, and they were also 1-8 in 2016. The playoff berth was the first for the Greene County program since 2013 and several starters will return in 2019 for whomever the new head coach is.
The coach met with the team this morning and told the players he was leaving. Moore told Raccoon Valley Radio it was a bittersweet moment with a lot of emotions. He told Raccoon Valley Radio his plan is to be involved in the new hire because he cares about getting the right person in place. He added he plans to leave in March to begin his new duties.
