Driving conditions may deteriorate this weekend across the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area as a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Greene and Guthrie counties.
The advisory is in effect from now until noon Sunday as a winter storm system of rain, freezing rain, and snow sweeps across the state. Dallas County is under a Wind Advisory until noon Saturday. The National Weather Service Des Moines Office says a period of heavy snow is expected and then will diminish to light drizzle this afternoon, which is then expected to change to snow this evening and into tonight. Snowfall will continue into Sunday with total accumulations of 2-6 inches anticipated. Wind gusts exceeding 40-miles-per-hour are also possible Saturday.
According to the Iowa Department of Transportation as of midday Saturday, roads in Greene and Guthrie counties are partially covered with slush and blowing snow. Motorists are advised to be wary of icy bridges and varying ramp conditions. Roads in Dallas County and closer to the Des Moines metro area are mostly seasonal.
